Curriculum

Our Educational Program

At McGraths Hill Children’s Centre, we provide a play-based, intentional learning program tailored to each child’s individual needs, abilities, and interests. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), our curriculum is shaped in partnership with families to ensure every child’s experiences, culture, and ideas are at the heart of their learning. We encourage children to take an active role in their learning, fostering independence, curiosity, and self-help skills through engaging, child-led experiences. Our educators use responsive and intentional teaching to create a meaningful and supportive environment that nurtures growth, confidence, and a love of learning.

Early Years Learning Framework

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) guides quality early childhood education across Australia, promoting play-based, holistic learning. It is built around three key concepts: Belonging, Being, and Becoming. From birth, children learn through connections with family, community, culture, and place, forming the foundation for identity, relationships, and understanding of the world.

Belonging – Children feel secure in their families, communities, and groups, forming the basis of relationships and identity.

Being – Childhood is about living in the present, exploring the world, and building self-awareness, relationships, and resilience.

Becoming – Children grow, learn, and develop skills, knowledge, and identities that enable them to participate fully in society

The EYLF sets high expectations for children from birth to five years, supported by five learning outcomes:
  • Strong sense of identity – confidence, resilience, autonomy, and positive relationships.
  • Connected with and contribute to their world – social responsibility, respect for diversity, and environmental awareness.
  • Strong sense of wellbeing – physical, social, emotional, and mental health.
  • Confident and involved learners – curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and independent learning.
  • Effective communicators – verbal, non-verbal, and digital communication, expressing ideas through a range of media.

Our Goals for your child

“We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.”

Maria Montessori

At McGraths Hill Children’s Centre, we know that strong relationships between educators, children, and families are key to learning and development. Children thrive when families and educators work together to support growth, wellbeing, and a love of learning.

Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and focus on helping children develop:

  • Mutual respect and empathy
  • Responsibility for self and others
  • Self-worth and social awareness
  • Sustainability and care for the environment
  • Initiative, persistence, and self-discipline
  • Creativity, imagination, and confidence as independent learners

We encourage open communication with families to ensure continuity and partnership in your child’s learning journey.
